Tri-council Parental Leave Supplements for Postdocs changing
SSHRC, NSERC, and CIHR are improving access to paid parental leave, harmonizing their guidelines and reducing administrative burden.
Effective July 31, 2017, SSHRC will join NSERC and CIHR in providing parental leave supplements paid out of agency grants within six months following the child’s birth or adoption to eligible students and postdoctoral fellows who are primary caregivers for a child. (This will not be retroactive; it will apply to births and adoptions on or after July 31, 2017.)
For any questions regarding this change, please contact: SSHRC and NSERC: email@example.com, or CIHR: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Beware Predatory Journals
Have you ever received an unsolicited email offering to publish your research that sounded too good to be true? You may have been approached by a predatory publisher that seeks to separate you from your money, or to publish your research in a venue that may potentially tarnish your scholarly reputation. Choosing where to publish your research can be challenging. York University Libraries provides support in this area through the expertise its librarians and archivists offer and through the services it provides. To get started, please consult Choosing an Appropriate Journal for Publishing Research. It provides a number of potential strategies for navigating the journal publishing landscape, as well as suggesting some questions to ask about a journal/publisher before choosing to work with it. To follow up further, consult your librarian.
