President Rhonda Lenton announced Wednesday, June 27, that Professor Thomas Loebel has accepted her invitation to become the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Associate Vice–President Graduate. Professor Loebel's five–year term begins July 1.

Wellness Consultation Service Open for Graduate Students

As some students will not be coming onto campus during the labour disruption, Wellness Consultations will be made available via telephone in addition to face-to-face meetings. If you wish to book a Wellness Consultation via telephone, please email sirwinga@yorku.ca. Wellness consultations are free and confidential and act as a starting place to assist students with concerns about mental health, balancing life as a graduate student, personal wellness goal setting, transitioning to graduate school, difficulty coping with stress or anxiety, and exploring options for mental health and wellness services at York or in the community.

  • John W. Davies Memorial Award
    Deadline: July 6
    The competition is open to any full time graduate student at a recognized University in Canada or the US State of Alaska whose research will assist in providing solutions to problems encountered in the Arctic or in cold ocean environments.

  • Commonwealth Scholarships in Low and Middle Income Countries
    Deadline: July 13
    The Commonwealth Master's Scholarships allow successful applicants the opportunity to gain a Master's degree while developing new skills and experiencing life in another country.

Graduate Development Fund — Deadline Extended

Deadline: TBA
The deadline for the Graduate Development Fund (originally March 23rd) has been extended. The new deadline will be determined at the end of the CUPE 3903 labour disruption. Students can continue to submit electronic applications until the deadline is set following the conclusion of the labour disruption.

Kingsley Abu Imonikhe Graduate Award

Deadline: July 25 (deadline extended for one domestic award)
The Kingsley Abu Imonikhe Graduate Award will be awarded to one full–time, domestic and one full–time international Masters or PhD student experiencing financial need and with at least a ‘B’ average. Value: $500 each.

Call for Nominations: Michael Baptista Essay Prizes 2018

Deadline: August 31
The Michael Baptista Essay Prizes recognize annually an outstanding scholarly essay of relevance to the area of Latin American and Caribbean Studies at York University from a humanities, social science, business or legal perspective. Only faculty members can nominate a paper. Students cannot self–nominate.

PhD student off to Germany for industrial internship

York University PhD student Mohammad Nazari in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, is travelling to Ludwigshafen, Germany, in June for an industrial internship at BASF, the world’s largest chemical company.
